Barcelona legend Messi speaks on possibility of playing at 2030 World Cup

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has this week spoken out on the chances of him featuring for Argentina at the 2030 World Cup.

Frontman Messi has of course spent the last year lighting up the international footage stage like only he can. Across Argentina’s first two group stage fixtures at the World Cup, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has racked up a remarkable five goals.

These exploits have given rise to inevitable chatter surrounding Messi’s future at international level.

The diminutive attacker turned 39 years of age on Wednesday, but is showing absolutely no sign of slowing down when it comes to production in the final third. So much so that some have already begun to mull over the possibility of Messi playing his part in four years’ time, at the 2030 World Cup.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media this week, the subject of his future plans was therefore put to the veteran himself.

Asked if he can envision himself still lining out for his country in 2030, Messi explained:

“I don’t know. The truth is, I’m not thinking about that right now. It seems a bit far off… but, as I said, I’m living one day at a time and focused on the present.

“I will continue for some time, as long as I can contribute, feel good physically, and help my teammates… I will keep playing.”
