La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have this week closed a deal for a fresh addition to the club’s defensive ranks.

This comes amid confirmation of the Rojiblancos having reached an agreement with their Bayer Leverkusen counterparts, over the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo.

Defender Grimaldo has of course taken his place centre stage in the media headlines surrounding Atlético for several weeks now.

After word was forthcoming that the brass at the Metropolitano were on the lookout for reinforcements on the left, the Spanish international was earmarked as the ideal profile.

Talks, in turn, were kicked into gear with the board at Bundesliga outfit Leverkusen. And as alluded to above, this week, these discussions appear to have borne fruit.

As per a report from market expert Fabrizio Romano:

‘Alejandro Grimaldo to Atlético Madrid, here we go! Verbal agreement in place between all parties. Bayer Leverkusen accept final proposal worth over €20m as total package with add-ons.’
